Hernly Associates, Inc.
HERNLY Associates, Inc. was founded as HERNLY Architects in 1987 with the belief that quality architecture can be achieved by listening carefully to clients and transforming their words into buildings. Since then, we have become a multi-disciplinary firm located in the heart of historic downtown Lawrence, Kansas. Our diverse employee base and open office design exhibit our belief that cooperation and interaction enhance creativity.
In May of 2000, Hernly Associates, Inc. launched our Lead-Hazard Consulting & Testing Services Division. With a strong background in Housing Authority and CDBG Development projects, HERNLY recognized the need to comply with the myriad of new lead laws and protect our children and the environment from harm.
The most recent addition to the firm, Grant Administration, allows us to vastly expand our professional service offerings. Now we can help communities and clients that may not have been able to afford beneficial architectural and environmental services in the past potentially find ways to fund their projects.
The amalgamation of these three diverse fields have come together to make HERNLY the firm of choice for architecture, environmental, and grant related services. Whether separately or combined, the services we provide can help our clients meet their goals for their projects.
Architecture Services The architects at Hernly Associates, Inc. take pride in their ability to meet the needs of a wide variety of clients. With more than 25 years of experience working with homeowners, business owners, non-profit boards, and building committees of various types, we strive to tailor services to the size and scope of each particular project. The end result is a cost effective yet personalized solution to the clients’ needs. The numerous design/build partnerships established with local contracting companies can further streamline the building process for many clients.
Environmental Services The environmental specialists at Hernly Associates, Inc. provide testing for many hazardous materials associated with the construction industry including lead paint, mold, asbestos, and radon. They also conduct Phase I Assessments, Capital Needs Assessments, Physical Condition Assessments and Housing Quality Standard inspections. These services are provided to communities across Kansas and western Missouri in cities ranging in population from 100 to 2 million and in buildings ranging in size from 800 s.f. to 30,000 s.f. After testing is complete, detailed reports of findings are provided and recommendations are given for the next course of action.
Grant Administration Services Grant writing and administration takes many forms at Hernly Associates, Inc. Since 2004 we have worked on housing, non-profit, historic preservation, and government funded grants all across Kansas. One of the most daunting tasks is finding the right grant to apply to a particular project, and Hernly Associates can assist with that search. We also gather data about a project, assemble information for the funding entity, complete grant application forms, and if awarded, oversee administration of grant funds disbursed for projects.
