AIA Kansas Launches New “Capitol Architects” Program
Architects are an important resource for legislators who must make policy decisions on issues that they have little experience with. Design, architecture, construction and development, energy, and community planning are just a few of the areas AIA Kansas members can help them better understand. That’s why we launched the Capitol Architects program in January 2015, which is designed to build relationships with our Legislature.
If you would like to participate in the program, we will begin by scheduling an appointment with the legislator(s) in your district. AIA Kansas Executive Dir. Terry Humphrey, who has worked as a public policy advisor for many years, will join you and provide talking points, etc. This introductory meeting will familiarize you with public policy issues and, most importantly, let your legislators know that you are not just a constituent but a knowledgeable resource that he or she can turn to on issues related to your profession.
Meetings with legislators can be scheduled throughout the year at any location. Consider inviting a legislator to see your office or a special project. If you want to see the Kansas Legislature in action we can schedule appointments at the capitol during the session. To schedule a meeting, please email Terry at firstname.lastname@example.org Please provide two or three possible meeting dates. Based on your availability, Terry will set the appointments and create the talking points.
